"Making space, taking place" by Antony Gormley, 2004

During the ninth edition of the event Arte all’Arte, curated by the association Arte Continua, in 2004 Anthony Gormley, English artist known worldwide, started the project “Making space, taking place”, realizing seven pixelated sculptures in iron, shaped on real people present on site where the artworks were then located, which indicate models’ names.
Through an alternative and original language, Gormley created what he calls a “collective memory map”: a roadmap that represents city’s memories and its inhabitants’ ones and, as acknowledgment for his contributions, Poggibonsi has rewarded the artist with the honorary citizenship. The seven sculptures are located in:

1- Railway station

2- Piazza Cavour

3- Piazza Rita Levi Montalcini

4- Unicoop’s entrance – Loc. Salceto

5- Fortress’ Cassero

6- Close to Don Milani’s School

7- Piazza Fratelli Rosselli
