Nature Reserve Castelvecchio

About 30 minutes away by car from Poggibonsi, there is a protected area, characterised by a wide wooded land, with a rich and varied vegetation.
The ruins of Castelvecchio, medieval fortress, from where there’s the possibility to enjoy a spectacular view, are a landmark for the excursions in the reserve and they host the Solatopupa Juliana, a gastropod mollusk diffused along the limestone outcrops in Tuscany, Liguria and Lazio.
In the sky, during the winter, there is the chance to spot the extremely rare peregrine falcon while the pastures and the rural areas outside the reserve provide nourishment to the several species of birds hunting here, like the short-toed snake eagle and the redstart.
